PRC MAJOR UPDATE: LET Specialization Change for September 2015 LET

MindGym LET Specialization

PRC has major updates for LET Specialization assignments this 2015 September Licensure Examination for Teachers:

  1. Graduates of Technology Education, AB Fine Arts, AB Interior Design, and AB Architecture will still take TLE as LET specialization.
  2. Graduates of business courses who used to have TLE as their LET specialization will now take Social Studies majorship.

  1. Graduates of AB Philosophy, AB Theology, and AB Humanities will still take Values Education as their LET majorship.
  2. Graduates of AB Psychology and AB Guidance and Counseling will take Social Studies majorship.
  3. Graduates of BS Psychology may opt for either Social Sciences or Biological Sciences.

These changes have taken effect as of this filing for the 2015 September LET. PRC has yet to release an official memo, but you may call your nearest office to clarify and confirm.

I’m Licensed BSED major in BioSci . Gusto ko sana magturo sa Math major , pwede po ba yun? or mag aaral ulit ako para mag major in math?

    • MindGym 2016/05/18 at 5:42 pm #

Hi Inyigo, yes, you will need a sufficient amount of Math units/classes to be considered for the Math LET Specialization. You may ask PRC how many Math units they require if you are planning to apply for the LET.

I am a BS Psychology graduate and would like to venture into teaching because i really wanted to teach.

I would like to ask the following:

    1. What are the requirements for me to teach?;
    2. What subject/s am i going to teach once i passed the LET?;
    3. Is it better to pursue for a MA degree or enroll for an 18 units education course for me to teach?; and
    4. Will i let the PRC check my TOR first before i enroll for 18 units(for me to know if some subjects will lessen the 18 units subjects)?

    Thank you.

    • MindGym 2016/05/24 at 6:15 pm #

      Hi DJ,

      1) Requirements to “teach” would depend on the school or place where you plan to work. Ie, you can still technically ‘teach’ informal workshops or conduct training classes at BPOS even without a PRC teaching license. However if you’re applying as a teacher at traditional schools in the Philippines, you are required to have a teaching license.

      2) These subjects are Professional Education units, and you may check specifics at the Certificate of of Professional Education (CPE) program at the school you arte planning to enroll in.

The CPE is composed of 18 education units, and is a requirement by PRC so you can apply to take the LET.

      3) These are two very different courses. If you are planning to teach, it is mandatory that you finish the 18 units CPE course. The MA is useful if you are already part of an academe/office (so you can further your career, usually as a college professor, or corporate practitioner).

      4) Yes, your TOR as an undergrad is one of the requirements that you need to submit at PRC.

      Hope this helps!

Hi po im a graduate of bsba major in financial and managerial accounting. I just enrolled yesterday to take up methods of teaching. Sabi sa registrar automatic secondary/high school level ako. But they didnt tell me kung ano magiging major/specialization ko. They said that prc will check my tor and they will decide whether its math, tle or social studies. My question is kailan ko pwede malaman major ko? Is it after I finish taking up the 18 units requirement? Cause I plan to take let after finishing 18 units kaya ngayon pa lang todo review na ko but i dont know my major is?

        • MindGym 2016/05/30 at 4:02 pm #

Hi Carly, you will most likely be assigned with Social Studies since business-related undergraduate courses are assigned with this.

You may already verify this as early as now at PRC if you want (though not necessary since you haven’t finished the 18 units yet). When you drop by, be sure to bring a copy of your grades so they can assess your LET Specialization.

    • MindGym 2016/06/01 at 9:38 pm #

If you took more Math-units in college, then it’s Mathematics. Otherwise, Social Studies.

    • MindGym 2016/06/01 at 9:30 pm #

Hi Mac! We don’t know up to when this change will last, since PRC are the ones in control. They are the ones who mandated this change after all 🙂

  12. Menchie 2016/05/27 at 1:45 pm #

hi, can i ask a question? what would be my major subject if i want to take a let examination. my course is computer engineering. can i take TLE subject instead of MATH?

    • MindGym 2016/06/01 at 9:28 pm #

Hi Menchie, you’ll most likely get Math. Since the 2015 September PRC memo change, TLE courses are more industrial course-related (ie, Industrial Tech., Architecture, Interior Design, Fine Arts).

As a tip though, TLE has a WIDE range and quantity of covered topics, compared to Math. And since you’re an Engineering graduate already, you’re most likely more familiar with Math vs TLE topics as well.

  13. Aiah 2016/05/27 at 7:22 pm #

I am a four year graduate in IT and would love to venture in teaching. Just to clarify, I want to teach secondary students. What will be my major then? Is it TLE?

    • MindGym 2016/05/30 at 4:03 pm #

Hi Aiah, it depends on the scope of your undergraduate degree program, but you will most likely be assigned to either Social Studies or Mathematics (if you have more math subjects).
